9:00 – 9:45 am “SmartPhone GIS” - Geoff Kneller, Precision Geomatics
The next generation of GIS applications will be ones that you carry in your pocket, thanks to the capabilities of smartphone technology. Geoff will present techniques to get your GIS data onto BlackBerry and Android smartphones, and discuss some lessons learned in developing software for mobile devices, including offline use, GPS integration, and user interface design.
Geoff has fifteen years of information systems project management and software engineering experience in the Canadian petroleum and high-technology sectors. He has developed extensive expertise in open standards for GIS and open source web mapping projects, and recently completed the Saskatchewan Geospatial Imagery Collaborative web site for sharing geospatial imagery.
 
9:45 – 10:30 am “Geospatial - Strategic Foundation for the Alberta Parks Reservation System”, John Findlay, Alberta Tourism, Parks & Recreation
John will outlining Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation's “Centralized Reservation and Registration Service (CRRS)” and how the geospatial foundation led the development for this innovative solution.  The CRRS is a world leading approach to online access of provincial campgrounds in Alberta, allowing campers to explore, reserve and experience campgrounds and campsites using an intuitive geospatial-driven rich internet application.

John Findlay has worked for Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation for over 25 years.  As the Manager of Operations, John is involved in capital, major infrastructure, inventory control, as well as supervising all training and recruitment programs for Alberta Parks Conservation Officers.

11:00 – 11:45 am “Base Mapping – A Strategic National Asset”, David Gariepy, ESRI
Geomatics is a “strategic technology” – helping countries like Canada maximize our levels of productivity, competitiveness and innovation. The effective application of Geomatics technology across and amongst multiple sectors absolutely depends upon the broad availability of nationally consistent, up-to-date base mapping. This presentation will describe and demonstrate a “National Web Base Map” of Canada created from various national sources. The presentation will also provide an update on the efforts of the Geomatics Industry Association of Canada (“GIAC”) towards a National Geomatics Strategy and a National Imagery Program.
 
David Gariepy is the Director of Business Development for ESRI Canada Ltd and he is also the Chairman of the Board of the Geomatics Industry Association of Canada. Dave has over 25 years of experience in the Geomatics industry in Canada and the United States. He has been involved with a number of mapping-related business start-ups including Teranet, Spatial Data Warehouse, AltaLIS and First Base Solutions. Dave is a member of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors, the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geophysicist and Geologists of Alberta.

11:45 - 12:30pm  "Plans to Release All GIS Data in Open Format", Chris Moore, CIO, City of Edmonton
The City of Edmonton has recently launched data.edmonton.ca an online Open Data Catalogue.  This Catalogue is the first phase of Edmonton's Open Data Strategy.  The City of Edmonton also plans to release it's GIS Data Set, creating OPEN GIS.  This Keynote will provide you with an update on Edmonton Open Data, what has happened and what is still to happen in 2010.  Be part of the conversation!

12:30 – 1:45 pm “CAPP Geomatics”, Dan Benwood, Suncor Energy Inc.
The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) represents companies that  explore for, develop and produce oil and gas throughout Canada. CAPP's mission is to  enhance the economic sustainability of the Canadian upstream petroleum industry in a  safe and environmentally and socially responsible manner, through constructive  engagement and communication with governments, the public and stakeholders in the  communities in which we operate. The Geomatics Committee focuses on various spatial  issues facing the industry.
  
Dan Benwood is the current chair of the CAPP Geomatics Committee. He works for  Suncor Energy in the Geomatics and GIS Department. Dan has a BSc. in Geomatics  Engineering from the University of Calgary.

1:45 – 2:30 pm “Geospatial Web Enabled Applications – Improving Information Exchange Between the Field and Office for the Phases of Site Planning, Development, and Closure”, Nicole Haakenson, Nexen
Nexen Inc. is actively developing and utilizing geospatial, web-enabled applications to improve the information exchange for site planning, development, and closure between the corporate office in Calgary and the unconventional shale gas operations in North Eastern British Columbia. Leveraging this technology has allowed Nexen to benefit from improved access, quality, consistency, and usability of data and information.

3:15 – 4:00 pm “Integrating Medium and High Resolution Ortho-Imagery into Enterprise GIS  through the use of HSPA, Internet and OGC - WMS”, David Parry,  TELUS & Iunctus Geomatics

Using ortho photography to update project maps and provide context to ground surveys   when working in remote area. Examples of orthophoto mosaics delivered via wide area  networks (including  wireless HSPA) Internet and integration with Enterprise GIS, and  business applications using OGC compliant  web services will be discussed.

David Parry, is a GIS solutions and data sales representative at TELUS where he has  been actively involved in the development and deployment of web based GIS, AVL and  geospatial data solutions for 9 yrs, with prior experience at ESRI Canada, in private  consulting, and performing geological exploration in Yukon & N. BC.
